St. Patty's Day

On St. Patty's Day the band Sterus played at the popcorn. Sterus is a three piece band made up of Paulie Matucshek, Ryan Torgerson and Nick Lonzlo. The are what someone would consider a power trio. The are called this because they can have only three people in the band and still have a very full sound to them. Other bands have problems with this and need an extra musician to make the band sound completely full. Sterus definelty rocked the show and it was a great St. Patty's Day.

North Side Music

This weekend I was on the Noth side at JB's speakeasy. Friday night there was a hip-hop show at JB's it seemed more like dirty rap to me though. When I first got to JB's there were about 10 african-americans on stage yelling about guns, killing people and bitches. First off I couldn't understand anything they were saying except the cuss words. Second I'am sure if I could have understood what they were saying I probably would have thought even less of them for their unintelligent ramblings. I think the name of the group was Murder Boyz. So if you like really awesome rap music check these guys out. It was good to see some kids from the marketing program up at JB's Tim and Luke. Luke was also rapping at the show but I turned up to late and missed him. Iam told that Luke was a lot better than the Murder Boyz thank god.

I will have a post later in the week updating the music for this weekend.

Reggae Weekend

This weekend there was two reggae bands that played downtown. First was at The Joint located at 324 Jay street. Playing here was a Bob Marley tribute band. They were pretty good musicians but the music was a little generic no originals only Bob Marley cover songs. Stayed at The Joint for a few songs but must keep moving more music to listen to. Next I took a short strtoll down to the Popcorn Tavern. Another reggae band is playing the name of this band is E3P0. I am not sure if the name stands for anything or what the name even means. Oh well. This band was really good they sounded similar to Sublime and Slightly Stoopid. The good thing about this band is that they did mostly originals. The lead singer had a very interesting voice that went very good with the style of music being played. Must keep moving. The last stop of the night was at Nighthawks Tap. Proto Meleei is playing they don't normally play reggae but when I walked in the bar who would have thought that the reggae theme would keep going. The band normally plays blues and Jimi Hendrix covers. I listened to a few of there songs and enjoyed what they were playing. I have a few friends that a in the band and was asked to come on stage with the and play the harmonica. The lead guitar player and I traded off riffs for a while then we each sang some random blue lyrics and the song was over. I had a very good time. Thanks Justin and Andy for the good jam.

First Time Blogger

This blog will consist of live music that is happening in the La Crosse area. Most of the music that I will be informing people about will be happening in bars so this blog might only be for people above the age of 21. For this week I will just list the musicians that are playing at the Popcorn Tavern a hot spot for live music.

Tuesday Feb. 17- Paulie- Paulie is a good friend of mine he does very creative and interesting music. Paulie does a solo gig he plays guitar, bass, beatbox, and the keyboard. Using a loop machine he is able to have all these instruments playng at the same time. Paulie is heavily influenced by the band Phish so if your lucky you will even be able to hear a few Phish songs. Paulie also writes his own songs which are a nice surprise to hear orignal songwrtiting in the bar music scene.
